The Port of Key West remains closed in the wake of Hurricane Irma, and the Coast Guard is urging boaters to stay away.
Coast Guard officials warned in a statement that, quote, “safe navigation around the Keys can’t be ensured at this time.”
The warning by Deputy Incident Commander Lexia Littlejohn cited unsafe infrastructure and debris in the water. Littlejohn also said increased boat traffic would hamper relief efforts.
