Florida Bar Expands Online Legal Clinic Eligibility

Florida's courts and law offices may be closed due to the coronavirus, but the Florida Bar's online legal resource is now ready to serve even more clients.

Tallahassee Lawyer Leah Wiederspahn, one of the attorneys who answers clinic questions, expects an uptick in business for the free online legal service.

"My guess is that we're still going to be dealing in large part with the same legal concerns that we always do. Maybe an increase in the numbers. It's put a lot of people in positions where they haven't been before."

So the annual income threshold for the clinic has been raised to just over $51,000 for an individual and $104,000 for a family of four. Wiederspahn cautioned not every legal issue is handled.

"It's a civil site; we don't give criminal advice."

Also, clients should ask their own questions and not have others do it for them. In addition, she urged those logging on to have available as much relevant information about themselves and their case as possible. The Free Legal Clinic link is on the Florida Bar's website.
