Florida Was Poised for COVID Problems

Cuts to public health funding and staffing in recent years left Florida especially vulnerable to the COVID-19 pandemic. That's according to a joint investigation by Kaiser Health News and the Associated Press. The investigation found that even though Florida's population had grown by 2.4 million people since 2010, state officials in 2019 cut county health department staff by about 25 percent.
