"Welcome To Immokalee" Sign Enhancement Project Moves Forward

In Immokalee, a project to enhance the town’s two “welcome” signs is moving forward.

After receiving negative comments about a redesign effort that was nearly complete in May of this year, the Immokalee Community Redevelopment Agencypartnered with the United Arts Council of Collier County to create a call-out for local artists to submit proposals to redesign the recently revamped sign.

During a meeting held Wednesday, the Immokalee CRA approved the top three submissions selected by a five-member UAC committee.

UAC Executive Director Laura Burns said the committee received 11 submissions.

“Each committee member was presented with the submissions and a rubric so they could score each submission based on color, technique, staying within the budget, timeline, all of those things,” Burns said.

Members of the community can vote for their favorite submission by completing an online survey on the UAC and Immokalee CRA websites as well as on the agencies’ social media accounts.

The voting period ends Wednesday Sept. 16 at 5 p.m. The winning submission will be announced Sept. 23.
