Florida's partnership with the Publix grocery store chain to administer COVID-19 vaccine doses is now expanding into Lee and Charlotte Counties.
Beginning Thursday, Jan. 21, 32 Publix pharmacies throughout Lee County will begin offering vaccine doses to eligible people 65 and older, frontline medical workers and residents and staff of long-term care facilities.
Seven Publix locations in Charlotte County are also set to begin administering vaccine doses on Thursday. 16 Publix pharmacies in Collier County joined the vaccine rollout effort last week.
The only way to make a vaccine appointment through a Publix location is online at publix.com/covid.
As of Wednesday morning, Publix's website indicates that store locations in every Florida county currently offering the vaccine are fully booked.
Meanwhile, The Florida Department of Health in Lee County and Lee County government announced, Tuesday, that about 5,800 COVID-19 vaccine doses will be administered Thursday, Jan. 21 and Friday, Jan. 22 at the county's distribution site off Daniels Pkwy near Southwest Florida International Airport.
Less than an hour after Lee County’s vaccine appointment reservation phone number began taking calls at 9 a.m. Wednesday, the county released a statement indicating that all appointments this week are booked.
Publix Pharmacies in Brevard, Martin, Monroe, and Palm Beach counties are also set to begin administering vaccine doses Jan. 21. Governor Ron DeSantis said 242 Publix pharmacies in 17 Florida counties will be administering the vaccine by the end of the week.
