Fla Muslims Hopeful About Ban Retraction

Among the executive orders signed by President Biden the day after his inauguration was one that ended a ban on travelers to the United States from a list of 13 countries. It was commonly known as “the Muslim ban.”

Lubna Alam, founder of the Muslim Women’s Council of Southwest Florida, said that the gesture brought hope to the local community.

“I think that President Biden making it a dayone priority has been received very well by the American Muslim community. I’m very delighted and I’m sure all the American Muslims, and I’ve read various statements from other organizations—everybody has taken it very positively,” she said.

Alam went on to say that, after this positive first step, she looks forward to more inclusion in general for Muslims in the US.
