Time Running Out for Homeowners in Foreclosure Settlement

Attorney General Pam Bondi is working to reach all 167,000 Floridians who are owed money in a foreclosure settlement.

The case involves the country’s five biggest mortgage lenders, who are accused of widespread errors and fraud leading to wrongful foreclosures.

The banks sent eligible homeowners letters but many people haven’t responded. Bondi is concerned they’re throwing away the letters as junk mail.

“We’re gonna try to send them something more substantial in the mail", Bondi said. "But in the meantime, I mean, just go see if you’re eligible because you could be entitled to a substantial amount of money if you lost your home.”

Most Florida homeowners eligible for relief in the foreclosure settlement will get about $2000. But they won’t receive a check unless they respond to their lender by January 18th.
