Duval Elex Supervisor on Delay in Calling Presidential Race

On Monday, nine county elections supervisors testified before a state Senate panel examining Florida's voting problems last November.

Virtually all said the ballot was too long. They also want more flexibility to designate early voting hours and locations. Another criticism was that it took too long for Florida’s election to be called.

Duval County elections supervisor Jerry Holland said Florida's election went better than was reported – and there were good reasons why it took some time to finish counting votes.

"Many states were still counting. But because we had 29 electoral votes, the candidates were separated by only 75,000 votes, the media did not want to make the wrong call as they did in 2000", said Holland.

Two days after the national networks called the election for President Obama, state officials were able to say he won Florida, too.
