Scott: More Funds for Services to People With Disabilities

Governor Rick Scott is calling for a $36 million increase in funding to get 750 people with disabilities off a waiting list for services.

Scott says it would be the first time in eight years the Agency for Persons with Disabilities got new money for a Medicaid waiver to provide home and community-based care.

"We need to increase the funding for the Agency for Persons with Disabilities to get people off the wait list. We need to put money in to make sure we help those individuals get to work", said Scott. "They want to live their version of the American Dream."

There are 22,000 people waiting now and 30,000 getting services through the waiver.

Scott is also recommending $2.5 million  to open up job opportunities to 1,000 people.

If the Legislature approves those items, more Floridians with disabilities would receive personal care assistance, transportation, and adult day training.
