Governor Rick Scott signed a bill Wednesday that immediately bans all Internet cafes in Florida. He signed the bill behind closed doors, as some were upset that the self-proclaimed 'jobs governor' would sign a bill costing thousands of Floridians their jobs.
"It's the right thing to do for our state", said Scott.
When asked about the people put out of work by the bill, Scott responded, "Well, I have a jobs agenda. Right now what the House and Senate should focus on is getting rid of the sales tax on manufacturing equipment – it'll create more manufacturing jobs."
Opponents of the ban have told lawmakers the Internet café industry employs about 1,300 Floridians. Scott said the strip mall casinos should have never been operating in the first place.
