Voter Rights Group Likes New Election Law

Floridians will have longer hours and more days to vote in next year’s election. Governor Rick Scott quietly signed a bill aimed at fixing problems that hampered the 2012 election on Monday. Two years ago, Scott signed a different bill, which voter groups say caused the trouble in the first place.
But League of Women Voters Executive Director Jessica Lowe-Minor is pleased with the new law.

"Hopefully things will be a little bit better with more access to early voting, with less people standing in lines after the polls have closed at 7 p.m. on election night, so we think that’s a really big step forward", Lowe-Minor said.

Some South Floridians waited more than six hours to cast their ballots last November, not voting until President Obama had already given his acceptance speech

Now local election officials can choose to extend early voting from eight days to fourteen, at more polling places.

League member say they're confident the elected supervisors will listen to their constituents and offer more time.
