Florida Democrats Gathering in Orlando to Focus on Scott, Not Crist

1,500 Florida Democrats are gathering in Orlando for a weekend conference. The goal is to galvanize support for the 2014 election season. But Democrats won't hear from the party's probable gubernatorial front-runner, Charlie Crist.

Crist isn't scheduled as a speaker because he's not a declared candidate.

Party spokesman Joshua Karp says the focus instead will be on Governor Rick Scott.

"Well, in addition to being an incumbent he's also a politician now with three years of a failed record to run on", Karp said. "So we anticipate holding him accountable to that record."

Democrats will hear from Nan Rich, who has declared her candidacy for the governorship. She's scheduled to speak Sunday.

Crist is expected to attend the conference and announce his candidacy soon. He promises to work "for … the people" on his website.

Crist, a former Republican, served as Florida's governor from 2007 to 2011.
