Governor Rick Scott is traveling the state this week - in full campaign mode - following a 60-day legislative session that produced a number of things he can use on the campaign trail - not the least of which are tax and fee cuts.He's also claiming victory for a law that will allow the children of undocumented immigrants in-state tuition rates. But you don't have to travel too far back in time to hear Scott opposing that kind of law.
In September 2011, Scott was asked about the topic during an interview on Newsmax, a conservative website.
Scott replied: "With regard to in-state tuition for illegal immigrants I completely oppose it."
"We rated this one a full flop," said Angie Holan of PolitiFact. "Gov. Scott once opposed this measure but lately he's changed his mind and says he intends to sign legislation that would allow these young people who are in the country illegally but in many cases have lived in the United States for many years, attended Florida high schools, to allow those students to get in-state tuition."
Scott has not admitted to changing positions, however.
"What he said is that he supports lower tuition for Floridians," Holan explained. "But this is a change of position and it's a complete change of position so we rated it full flop."
