Sharon Harrington failed to get the votes she needed to keep her job as the Lee County Supervisor of Elections beginning in the August primary. She faced a run-off and challenger Tommy Doyle pulled ahead by more than six points. Real estate developer Mike Bauman voted for Doyle. He said overcrowded  polling sites and other issues in past elections meant it was time for a change.

“I just think that there’s a mismanagement that goes on that’s unaccountable," said Bauman. "I just think he’s an accountable guy that could do it better."

Retired nurse Candi Stegskal also supported Doyle in this run-off election. Sharon Harrington had been Lee County’s Supervisor of Elections for 12 years. Gulfshore Life reports her downfall began on Election Day 2012 when there were excessively long lines and voting machines failed.
