The University of Central Florida in Orlando was closed until noon today after explosives were discovered in a campus dorm room where a student was found dead from what officials say was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Campus police found the explosives as they responded to a report of a man with a gun in the early hours of this morning.

UCF spokesperson Grant Heston says Police first got a call about a fire alarm at North tower- a residence hall that's home to about 500 students.

"While UCF PD was en route to respond to that they received a 911 call about a man with a gun", said Heston. "When they entered this dorm room they found a body, dead from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound."

Heston says police also found a hand gun, an assault weapon, and bag containing improvised explosive devices. He says the tower was evacuated and a decision made to close the campus until noon.

University police are working with the FBI and Orange County sheriffs officers to make sure the campus is safe.
