Lee Clerk Of Courts Prepares For Statewide Driver's License Reinstatement Initiative

The Lee County Clerk of Court’s office is preparing for a week-long initiative to get people with suspended driver’s licenses back on the road.

Operation Green Light is a state-wide initiative that will waive cumulative court fees in order to reinstate suspended driver’s licenses.

Linda Doggett is Lee County’s elected Clerk.

"The idea is to get as many people back on the road with a valid driver’s license as possible," Doggett said.

Clerk’s offices are the collection agency for fees and fines for the court system.

Doggett said if a person doesn’t pay their fines on time, they can accumulate additional fees, making them difficult to pay off.

"We’re willing to waive these outstanding additional fines—the 25 percent collection agency fee, the payment plan fees are waived," Doggett said. "We’re letting people go on payment plans even if they’ve failed three or more times which we don’t normally do."

The Lee Clerk of Court’s office will be open on Saturday, Oct. 12, and will offer extended office hours through Oct. 18.

Doggett estimates that 62 thousand people in Lee County are eligible to get their driver’s licenses reinstated during Operation Green Light.
