Fort Myers's McCollum Hall Seeks Muralist

Fort Myers Mural Society
Dancers at Historic McCollum Hall

Historic McCollum Hall in Fort Myers is in the process of being resurrected and needs some artwork for its walls.

The Fort Myers Mural Society is looking for artists interested in proposing murals for McCollum Hall in Dunbar. The Art Deco building played an important role in the history of Fort Myers.

Shari Shifrin, Director of the Fort Myers Mural Society, said, "It was a cultural events center for the black community in the 40s and 50s, and it’s hosted big-name entertainers. Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald all played there."

The society is looking to memorialize the origins of this historic site. Check their website for specifications on the Call to Artists. The deadline for proposals is March 31 but likely to be extended.
