If the stay-at-home order has allowed you to get to know your local birds better, you can contribute what you’re seeing to a worldwide scientific effort.
Saturday May 9th is the Global Big Day, an initiative managed by the Cornell University Lab of Ornithology. Sally Stein of the Audubon Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary explains how wide-ranging the effort is:
"Last year they had 174 countries submit data from birds that were in peoples’ backyards," she said.
To participate, people can create a free account on ebird.org, or download the app, then submit bird sightings. The site will gather the data to help inform bird research worldwide.
