Nancy Klingener

Nancy Klingener covers the Florida Keys for WLRN. Since moving to South Florida in 1989, she has worked for the Miami Herald, Solares Hill newspaper and the Monroe County Public Library.

She is a Spring 2014 graduate of the Transom Story Workshop. She is on the board of the Key West Literary Seminar. 

  • State health officials reported 5,838 new COVID-19 cases, Wednesday for a total of 858,012 infections. The Florida Department of Health also reported 52 new coronavirus-related deaths, Nov. 11, increasing the statewide death toll to 17,512 fatalities since the start of the pandemic.
  • State health officials reported 1,707 new COVID-19 cases, Monday, bringing the statewide total to 756,727 cases. The Florida Department of Health also reported 54 new coronavirus related deaths, Oct. 19, increasing the statewide death toll to 16,222 fatalities.
  • State health officials reported 2,722 new COVID-19 cases, Tuesday, bringing Florida's total to 738,749 cases. The Florida Department of Health also reported 119 new coronavirus-related deaths, Oct. 13, increasing the statewide death toll to 15,722 fatalities.Of the 5,600,616 COVID-19 tests that have been performed in Florida so far, the overall positivity rate fell slightly to 13.19% and the latest single day positivity rate increased slightly to 4.96%.
  • State health officials reported 1,838 new COVID-19 cases, Monday, bringing Florida's total to 648,269 cases.Sept. 7 marked the lowest single-day increase in reported new infections in Florida since June 15, but whether the Labor Day holiday weekend will result in a surge in new infections, as the state experienced about a week after the July 4th holiday, remains to be seen.The Florida Department of Health also reported 22 new coronavirus-related deaths, Monday, bringing the statewide death toll to 12,023 fatalities since the beginning of the pandemic.
  • State health officials reported 9,785 new cases of COVID-19, Wednesday, increasing Florida's total to 379,619 cases of the virus. The Florida Department of Health also reported another 139 coronavirus-related deaths, yesterday, bringing the statewide death toll to 5,345 fatalities.Of the 3,158,741 COVID-19 tests that have been performed in Florida overall, 12.02% have been positive for the virus.
  • State health officials reported 10,347 new cases of COVID-19, Monday, increasing the statewide total to 360,394 cases.Monday marked the 27th consecutive day of single-day increases of at least 5,000 cases.The Florida Department of Health also reported 90 new coronavirus-related deaths, July 20, bringing the statewide death toll 5,072 fatalities.
