Christopher Phillips has spent his life working to facilitate thoughtful and inclusive conversationsamong people of all walks of life, from all around the world, about deep and meaningful issues.
Phillips is an author, educator, scholar, lecturer, and pro-democracy advocate. He has published six books for adults and ten for children, including his latest 'Soul of Goodness: Transform Grievous Hurt, Betrayal, and Setback into Love, Joy and Compassion' in which he shares lessons learned from his intimate and often unexpected encounters with people he met while traveling the world while reflecting on the death of his father.
He’s probably best known for the international bestseller 'Socrates Cafe: A Fresh Taste of Philosophy' which kicked off his lifelong passion for creating environments in which deep, thoughtful, and thought-provoking conversations can happen. There are now more than 500 Socrates Cafes that meet all over the world which he helped start.
He’s also founder and executive director of Democracy Cafe, which like Socrates Cafe creates conversations focusing on the fundamental elements of the democratic process.
He was on the Florida Gulf Coast University campus last week for two speaking engagements and stopped by the studio.
