Leading a Healthcare System During a Global Pandemic: A Chat with Dr. Larry Antonucci

Lee Health

As the novel coronavirus outbreak made its way to Southwest Florida the doctors and nurses, and staff and management – all of the people who make a hospital, or a healthcare network run – were collectively the local first responders to the COVID-19 pandemic. In SWFL the largest healthcare provider is Lee Health. We talk with its president and CEO, Dr. Larry Antonucci, to get his big picture take on how the local response has gone, and how the reopening is beginning.

Plus, we’ll learn learn about what’s called Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children or MIS-C which is being associated with COVID-19. We’re joined by Dr. Stephanie Stovall, Medical Director for Quality and Safety at Golisano Children’s Hospital, and a pediatric infectious disease doctor.

And we’ll get an update on Lee Health’s Convalescent Plasma trial, which has been underway for a month now. The have been collecting plasma from people who have recovered from COVID-19 to test if it might help patients with active infections.
