Fort Myers Non-Profit Creates Community for People on the Spectrum

Throughout the month of July WGCU is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act with the “Move to Include” initiative. It’s a nationwide public media effort that seeks to motivate people to embrace different abilities and include all people in all aspects of life.

This week we learn about the Fort Myers nonprofit My Autism Connection, which has brought adults on the spectrum together since 2012. Its mission is to provide experiential opportunities for adults diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorder to help them develop skills towards independence and building healthy relationships.

Our guests are Sandra Worth, founder and Executive Director; Brad Karpel, who has been a member of MAC since its inception, and serves as a Member Representative to the Board of Directors; and Robbie Stick, who has been a member since 2016.

This episode is part of Move to Include, supported by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
