The American Civil Liberties Union wants to know how local police departments are using a cell phone tracking technology called “stingrays.” This massive public records project has yielded some insight – but also some stonewalling.
Guests:
Michael Barfield- a Sarasota legal consultant, Vice-President of ACLU of Florida Board, and a plaintiff in the ACLU’s public records lawsuit against the Sarasota Police Department, which has kept its stingray program records from public view.
Nate Wessler- a staff attorney for the ACLU and part of the ACLU’s Speech Privacy and Technology Project, spearheading the group’s investigation into police use of stingray cell phone trackers.
