Encore: The History of Soul Music in the Sunshine State

University Press of Florida

When you think of soul music, the state of Florida is not likely to spring to mind first. But, along with cities like Detroit, Memphis, and New Orleans, the Sunshine State also has a rich history in the world of soul music. We’re listening back to a conversation we had in February of this year with John Capouya, author of “Florida Soul: From Ray Charles to KC and the Sunshine Band” - and Associate Professor of Journalism at the University of Tampa. He sat down with Julie Glenn ahead of his presentation at the Edison and Ford Winter Estates in Fort Myers on Florida’s Soul Music Heritage.
