We're marking the 18th anniversary of the September 11th attacks by listening back to a conversation we had in 2017 with Beverley Bass. She's a fourth-generation Floridian from Fort Myers, and one of the first female pilots for American Airlines—and its first female captain. Her experiences as a pilot on September 11, 2001, when she and thousands of others found themselves grounded in Gander, Newfoundland until American airspace re-opened, form part of the foundation of a story that's now being told through the musical Come From Away on stages across the world.
