Florida A&M University appears on the fast track to achieving a flawless reaccreditation by the end of the year. This week’s visit of an accreditation committee to the school resulted in an apparently clean bill of health.

The on-site committee of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools found no problems and had no suggestions for improvement, said an obviously happy FAMU President Dr. Larry Robinson.

“We just don’t want to be compliant; we want to excel in everything that we do,” Robinson said.

That includes a new program called “Write On, FAMU”. It will promote good writing skills in every class on campus, regardless of department.

“Writing was one of those that we saw would be beneficial to any student in any major,” Robinson explained.

The Association will render its final reaccreditation decision in December, but Robinson sees nothing in the way of a positive outcome. That contrasts with six years ago when FAMU was sanctioned for a number of deficiencies in its programs and administration.
