Florida Redistricting Trial

Wikimedia Creative Commons

Closing statements have been submitted in the lawsuit over whether Florida Legislators broke the law when drawing up new congressional district boundaries in 2012. Voting rights groups who filed the suit claim members of the Florida House and Senate violated an amendment to the state constitution that voters approved in 2010 which bars legislators from drawing up maps that favor incumbents or a political party. Second Judicial Circuit Court Judge Terry Lewis is expected to rule in the non-jury trial later this month. We’ll explore the history of issues with Florida’s political district boundaries and hear details from reporters who’ve been covering the trial.
