Debris-strewn streets in Everglades City a week after Hurricane Irma.

The recovery from Hurricane Irma is beginning to dwarf the storm itself: many are still without power, grocery stores are still lean on supplies, and public sewage systems continue to back up into some neighborhoods. Inland counties like Hendry, and coastal communities from the Florida Keys to Everglades City, still face acute needs that mean a return to routine may yet be weeks or months away.

Today Gulf Coast Live hears updates from people in Hendry still dealing with unprecedented numbers of mosquitoes as they wait in line for truckloads of food.

We’ll also hear dispatches from Everglades City and Key West as those communities continue to inch towards recovery.

And we'll have updates from across South Florida on presence of mosquitos and how mosquito control efforts are working to prevent a swarm of the bugs as Florida slowly dries out from the storm.
