Newt: Florida Key to Election, Senate Majority

Gage Skidmore

Former presidential candidate Newt Gingrich took the Florida delegation to "Newt U" at their breakfast Thursday morning.

The delegates were already fired up by a star-studded line-up of speakers, including Congressman Connie Mack, who's running against U.S. Senator Bill Nelson.

Gingrich told the delegates they must deliver the state for GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney and for Mack.

Gingrich stated, "There are no models that have a Republican winning without Florida, period. So the future of the country is in your hands. Second, you cannot govern in Washington if Harry Reid is the majority leader, and you must defeat Bill Nelson as a part of this process."

Gingrich also said that while Medicare is an important issue in Florida – the state with the highest percentage of seniors – the Republicans can win on it.
