One Florida GOP Alternate Delegate Has Vietnam Roots But A Puerto Rican Priority

The Republican National Convention is well underway in Cleveland this week – and the Florida delegation is ready to bring some of the sunshine state to the Buckeye state.

Thuy  Lowe is one of the 96 alternate delegates for Florida. She’s running for congress for district 10 in central Florida, but says one of the things she’s most passionate about at the convention is recognizing Puerto Rico.

“When you talk about Florida and Puerto Rico, we have history together.”

Thuy says her parents came to the U.S. in the seventies as Vietnamese refugees. She cares about Puerto Rico because she says the GOP supports the territory’s chance for statehood.

  Thuy Lowe

“I think that it’s important that we now start seeing Puerto Ricans as Americans.”

As a territory Puerto Rico does have a delegation in Cleveland for the RNC but they cannot vote in the general election.
