Small Turnout for First Major RNC Protest

Tropical Storm Isaac not only postponed today's RNC activities in Tampa, but dampened the turnout for the first major protest.

An estimated 300 to 500 protestors took part in the "March on the RNC," compared to the 5,000 that organizers had predicted.

Dianne Mathiowetz  of Atlanta, Georgia, made the trip. She's marching both here and at the Democratic Convention next week, saying there's no real difference between either side.

Mathiowetz says, "The platform and the policies and program of the two parties are so similar that they call for people to have essentially the same demands--we're looking for jobs at decent wages, we're looking for quality healthcare for all, we want education, we want peace."

The march, which took just over an hour, led to the temporary closure of a number of downtown streets.

Tampa Police reported one arrest: a 19 year old Tampa man was arrested for wearing a mask inside the event zone and resisting arrest without violence.
