Premiering at Fort Myer's Theatre Conspiracy this week is a new play from a familiar playwright: the Civil War-era story of "The Cave" by Cape Coral author and writer Jeff Lindsay.
Lindsay, a New York Times best-selling author and creator of the "Dexter" novels on which the hit TV series was based, set the play in a hidden cavern during the Civil War, where an escaped slave, a blind Confederate soldier, and a Union deserter are all seeking shelter, freedom, and survival. It's one of more than 20 plays Lindsay's authored and staged from Florida to California to London.
Directed by Bill Taylor at the Alliance for the Arts, the drama mixes themes of race, belief and mortality. The cast includes local actors, including Marie Baptiste as Cassie, Jordon Wilson as Brandon, and Michael Pineda as Timothy.
Thursday at 1:30 p.m. on Gulf Coast Live, Lindsay discusses the new play, the ideas that spurred it, the production, and other aspects of his writing. He'll also discuss a career that's seen him work as an actor, comic, director, voice-over artist, teacher, sailing instructor, and more.
