One day before the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump, WGCU and other NPR member stations across the country are working together through the "Nation Engaged" project to ask: “What do you want the new President to know about you or your community as he takes office?”
Thursday on Gulf Coast Live, a diverse group of Southwest Floridians join the conversation to talk about what they hope to see from the new administration in the next four years. Talking as individuals, as members of communities defined by religion, ethnicity, gender, military service, and more, we'll discuss hopes and fears, feelings of inclusion and division, and how we talk to people we disagree with.
Joining the program will be Tory Renza, a veteran of the Iraq War and vice president of Southwest Florida Young Republicans now pursuing her degree at Florida Gulf Coast University.
Jalisha McKoy, an FGCU student with the campus' Coalition of Black Organizational Leaders, will also join the discussion.
Also speaking on the program will be Mohammad Al-Darsani, imam with the Fort Myers Islamic Center for Peace.
And Arlene Goldberg with Visuality Florida will also join today's discussion.
