Senior and Disabled Encouraged to Choose Their Own Long-Term Medicaid Managed Plan

On August first, Florida will shift to a statewide Medicaid managed-care program for seniors and disabled people who need long-term care. The state Agency for Health Care Administration will be ramping up call centers in the lead-up to the transition, increasing the number of operators from 124 to more than 500.

Starting May 20th, eligible Floridians in the Orlando area can call or go online to compare health care providers to see which plan includes their primary care doctor and medications.

Damon Rich of the Agency for Health Care Administration says it's better for people to make their own choices.

"Those who make a voluntary selection have been informed", Rich said. "They’ve selected the plan that is right for them, and they are less likely to change which only helps enhance their continuity of care."

The goal is to help Floridians who need long-term care stay in their homes instead of nursing facilities.
