Domestic Violence: Meeting the Needs of Abuse Victims in Southwest Florida

More than 111,000 domestic violence crimes were reported in the sunshine state in 2011 according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and experts say that’s just a fraction of the real number because so many go unreported. 

We’ll talk with Lucy Ortiz who manages the Shelter for Abused Women & Children’s Immokalee Outreach Center about the history of the domestic violence movement, her work advocating on behalf of battered women and her recent trip to Washington D.C. where she attended a ceremony for President Obama’s signing of the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act
