Post-Election Anxiety

The election of Donald Trump represents unknown territory in American politics. After a vitriolic campaign the Republican nominee was swept into office in what has been called one of the biggest political upsets in American history.

President-elect Trump becomes the first U.S. president with no prior experience in elected office or the military. As president, Trump will work with a Republican-led House and Senate and is poised to make an immediate nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court. Trump is one of only four presidents to take office despite losing the popular vote. And at 70-years-old, Trump is the oldest person to assume the office.

Comments Trump made during the campaign about women, about immigrants, and about Muslims as well as Republican platforms related to abortion rights, LGBT rights, and healthcare have left many voters anxious about they can expect from the next four years. Days after the election, anti-Trump protests and riots have also broken out in several states.

Join WGCU for a special one-hour Gulf Coast Live that will have a diverse group of voters talking through their hopes and anxieties after the election, and focusing on how to move forward in the next four years.
