Community Garden Sprouts into Food Forest at Pine Manor

A successful community garden in Pine Manor will now have a food forest next door, an expansion of a community program that's already been linked with falling crime ratesand engaging youth.

Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. on Gulf Coat Live, we’ll talk with Arlo Simonds, the garden coordinator and permaculture designer for Pine Manor Community Gardens, about the expansion of the 11,000-square-foot community garden into the food forest.

We'll also speak with Dorothy Browning, Goodwill of Southwest Florida's community education program manager, about the project that'staught teens to garden and cook while improving life in the neighborhood.

Also joining the program is Ashley Okerstrom, a graduate of the site's culinary training program.
