Hatching Eggs on Fort Myers 'Eagle Cam' Capture International Audience

The "Eagle Cam" streams video of a Fort Myers bald eagle nest out to the world, and now as two eggs begin to hatch, the live stream is garnering a flurry of new viewers, commenters, and interest from around the globe.

The camera, run by Dick Prichett Real Estate, has chronicled the lives of bald eagles Ozzie and Harriet since 2012. Viewers watched Ozzie succumb to injuries early last year; they welcomed Harriet's new mate M15; and they tracked the recovery of eaglet E-8 from an owl attack in May.

Now the Eagle Cam's worldwide audience is watching as Harriet and M15 await the hatching of two eggs laid in November. The first eaglet hatched Saturday morning;  the second is expected to hatch at any time.

Monday at 1:30 p.m. on Gulf Coast Live, Virginia Pritchett McSpadden with Dick Prichett Real Estate talks about the camera's unexpected worldwide popularity. Wildlife rehabilitation expert Rachel Walsh with the CROW clinic also joins the program to discuss eagle injuries she's helped nurse back to health.

Matthew Smith is a reporter and producer of WGCU’s Gulf Coast Live.
