Bill Banning Local Regulation of Businesses Draws Questions from Lee Chamber

Local city and county governments won't be able to impose new regulations on "businesses, professions, and occupations," and state law would preempt any existing local laws and regulations: that's the heart of House Bill 17, now advancing in Tallahassee.

Critics have called the bill overly-broad, implying significant change for counties and cities on issues ranging from environmental controls, to business signage, to minimum wage, to local laws prohibition medical marijuana dispensaries.

Friday at 1 p.m. on Gulf Coast Live, Rep. Randy Fine—the author of HB17—joins the program to discuss the bill and what issues he hopes it addresses.

Also joining the program is Armando Nargi, with the Lee County Chamber Partnership, sharing his questions and concerns about HB17 as it impacts Lee County businesses.

Matthew Smith is a reporter and producer of WGCU’s Gulf Coast Live.
