Sharing poetry from and about Southwest Florida for more than 15 years, the Sanibel Poetryfest is gathering poets, authors, and writers at the Sanibel Public Library on Monday, Apr. 3.

Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. on Gulf Coast Live, festival organizer Joe Pacheco shares his story of how he stopped writing poetry for decades, only to rediscover his passion for the form upon retiring to the Gulf Coast. He'll share his poems as well as how he's been a part of the the Sanibel Poetryfest going since 2000.

Fellow Sanibel poet Lorraine Walker Williams also joins the show to share poems of her own and other poetic endeavors in the region.

Also joining the program are poets Dorothy Brooks of Punta Gorda, whose Evening of Poetry event will gather Charlotte County poets during April's National Poetry Month.

Matthew Smith is a reporter and producer of WGCU’s Gulf Coast Live.
