A Southwest Florida nonprofit focused on empowering teen girls through fitness, leadership, and more says it's pushing girls in the region to reach literal and metaphorical summits.

Wellfit Girls is focusing on a five-month training experience for girls in the region that culminates in a trek to the ancient Incan site of Machu Picchu in Peru. The group is harnessing the fame of “Wild” author Cheryl Strayed for an engagement in Naples relating the challenges on trail hiking to meeting the challenges in life.

Monday at 1:30 p.m., Wellfit Executive Director Colby Hazewinkel explains how the Naples-based program encourages teen girls to take up physical and mental challenges in pursuit of their goals.

Also joining the program is Wellfit Girls alum, Sofia Ramallo, sharing her experiences with the program and what Wellfit meant to her.
