Monday marks one year since a gunman opened fire at Pulse, the LGBT nightclub near downtown Orlando. The deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history claimed 49 lives and left dozens more wounded. The loss sent shock waves across the nation and around the globe, and transformed the city of Orlando at its core.

Gulf Coast Live dedicates a full hour entire hour to looking at how the shooting has impacted the community. Working with our colleagues at WMFE in Orlando, we’ll share stories from survivors of the shooting, we’ll remember those who were lost, and we’ll look at some of the many ways the community of Orlando has responded: then, now, and with an eye toward the future. And we’ll examine how things have changed since those early morning hours of June 12, 2016, from plans to convert the nightclub into a permanent memorial to LGBT gun rights advocacy groups organizing across Florida.
