TheFlorida Repertory Theatre in Fort Myers began performances this week of the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama “Disgraced,” by novelist and playwright Ayad Akhtar.
The one-act drama centers around Amir Kapoor, a successful Pakistani-American lawyer who has more or less abandoned his Islamic religious roots and the dialogue between the play’s five characters tackles some particularly timely and contentious topics related to Islamophobia, antisemitism, and the Muslim-American identity and experience in a post 9/11 world. We’ll take a closer look with actors Amir Darvish and Rachel Burttram. We’ll also speak with Florida Repertory Theatre founder and Producing Artistic Director Robert Cacioppo.
