According to the Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida (AAASWFL) approximately 28% of America’s seniors live alone, and many experience social isolation.
Studies by the National Center on Elder Abuse show a correlation between social isolation and elder abuse, and social isolation has also been connected with a number of health issues, including poor diet, dementia, lack of exercise, high blood pressure, arthritis and depression. We're joined AAASWFL health and wellness coordinator, Sherry Young, to explore why it is especially important to take some time to connect with seniors during the holiday season.
