The U.S. Census Bureau is starting to get its ground game together for next year’s decennial count, which is mandated by the U.S. Constitution. The census seeks to count every resident living in the United States. It happens every 10 years. The information collected determines the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives, and is also used to distribute billions in federal funds to local communities.
The 2020 Census will require counting an increasingly diverse and growing population of around 330 million people living in more than 140 million residences. To get an accurate count, the Census Bureau must build an accurate address list of every housing unit, maximize self-response to the census, and efficiently follow up with those who do not respond. And, to do this they need people working in communities to ensure as many residents as possible take the census. We learn what jobs are available from the U.S. Census Bureau’s recruiter for Collier County, Ed Boaz.
