We Get the Latest on HIV Treatment and Prevention

www.mcgregorclinic.org
The McGregor Clinic

According to the latest numbers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Florida leads the nation when it comes to new cases of HIV. The Miami-Ft. Lauderdale-West Palm area leads the nation in terms of per capita cases of HIV, with Orlando at number 2, Jacksonville at number 7, and the Cape Coral-Fort Myers area at 49th.

Doctors say most news cases are spread by people who don't know they have the virus. That gap is driven by a lack of routine testing for the virus, regardless of a person's risk factors.

But, treatment and prevention methods have come a long way in the past four decades. On today’s show we’re going to get an update on just how far with Dr. Douglas Brust, he’s the infectious diseases doctor at the McGregor Clinic in Fort Myers, and HIV Program Director for Lee Health; and Amy Zamot, Prevention Director at McGregor Clinic.

You can reach the Lee Health/FSU Family Practice PrEP Clinic by phone at 239-481-4111, just ask to be connected to the FSU Family Practice office.
