The School District of Lee County recently announced its 2019 Teacher of the Year, Mariner High School Art Teacher Samantha Hower. Now in her fourth year at Mariner, Hower has been instrumental in transforming the school’s STEM Academy into the STEAM Academy – adding an art curriculum to the science, technology, engineering and math already being taught.
She was surprised for an award ceremony by Superintendent Dr. Greg Adkins, District Administrators, Board Members, Mariner High School’s Principal and school staff on December 18th. We brought her into the studio to find out why she got into teaching, what motivates her as a teacher, and what she hopes to pass along to her students.
