Fort Myers Activist on Protests and Communicating with Police

For nearly a month now, demonstrators have gathered regularly in downtown Fort Myers to bring awareness to racial injustice, and to promote social reform in the wake of the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police back in May.

On today’s show we’ll hear from Chantel Rhodes, she’s a community activist and one of the organizers of the demonstrations that have been taking place in Fort Myers. And, she is one of the admins of the Facebook Group Peaceful Protest Lee County, FL which has helped bring people together.

Andrea Perdomo is a reporter for WGCU News. She started her career in public radio as an intern for the Miami-based NPR station, WLRN. Andrea graduated from Florida International University, where she was a contributing writer for the student-run newspaper, The Panther Press, and was also a member of the university's Society of Professional Journalists chapter.
