A new documentary called “Love Wins Over Hate” features a series of honest and thought-provoking interviews with former white supremacists, and others who held extreme views but have since renounced them. It attempts to get to the heart of why people hate, and sometimes take on extremist ideologies like white supremacy. And what it takes to escape that world, and in some cases go on to work to help others escape.

We're joined by its producer and director, award-winning filmmaker Susan Polis Schutz. She has made eight documentaries with her production company, IronZeal Films, including "Anyone and Everyone," which featured the coming-out stories of gay sons and daughters and their parents. It was partly inspired by Susan's own son, Jared Polis, who was at the time a Colorado member of the United States House of Representatives and the first openly gay member in Congress, and is now Governor of Colorado.
