Steven Cook returns to Naples to discuss Turkey’s “drift” away from Europe and greater democratic reform. Street protests in Istanbul and frustration at the country's authoritarian turn, are all dangerous signals for Prime Minister Erdogan. Can/will Europe pull them back into discussions about joining the EU and will that solve the problem? Dr. Cook is the Hasib J. Sabbagh Senior Fellow for Middle Eastern Studies at the Council.
